Proxmox - Backup & Restore VMs - Using the Proxmox Backup Server
- Select Datacentre.
- Select Backup.
- Click Add to create a new backup job.
- Click Create will create the job and the job will run as scheduled.
NOTE: A job can be run on all or a specific node.
- A storage has to be selected.
- Either create a new one, or use the default one and enable this one to be used as a backup storage as well.
- Select the appropriate timing for the backup.
- Include VMs to include in the backup.
- Optional have a mail sent to when the job is running.
- snapshot mode is the only mode that will allow online backups.
- All other modes will pause or shutdown the VM.
Restore Proxmox Live Backup
Two options.
- When host itself is still running, but a VM is broken
- Just select the VM and go to Backup:
- Select Datacentre.
- Select Backup.
- Select the actual backup file to restore.
- Select Restore.
- To deploy the backup to a new server.
- A storage will have to be created on the new server which can hold contain the backups.
- The backup file will need to be uploaded to the new server.
- Select the uploaded backup file and click restore.
- This will create a new VM using the backup file.
- After the restore process is finished you should check the network configuration and start the VM.
